Police Week 2023
Messages from Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, Ottawa Police Services Board Chair Gail Beck and Chief Eric Stubbs
The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting its annual Police Week, May 14 to 20, 2023, in communities city-wide.
The goal of Police Week is to help residents better understand what we do as a police service by sitting down with you to answer your questions, sharing something to eat, and coming together as a community.
That’s because our members are part of the community too, and care deeply about the well-being of the city’s residents. It’s a perfect opportunity to get to know the people who serve and protect your neighbourhoods.
This year’s theme: “Building Bridges: Celebrating Police-Community Partnerships,” is a reminder that we can create safer communities by working together, and there’s no better way to get involved than coming out to one of the many scheduled events during Police Week.
Come and meet your Community Police Officer or play a game of basketball with the OPS Hoopstars. We are looking forward to seeing you at any of our events:
- May 16 | Bayshore Park (175 Woodridge Crescent) | 4 to 7 p.m.
- May 17 | Coronation Park (442 Coronation Avenue) | 4 to 7 p.m.
- May 18 | Dutchie’s Hole Park (154 Mann Avenue) | 4 to 7 p.m.
Each community event will have an inflatable 21 foot 5-in-1 World of Sports games to test your athletic skills, a visit from Little Ray’s Reptiles where you can hold a spider or a snake, OPS vehicles to explore, balloon animals, BBQ, drinks, and popcorn.
Join us at Ben Franklin Place (101 Centrepointe Drive) on May 16 at 11 a.m. or 1:30 p.m.
Learn how we complete background clearance checks! Topics will include the different types of records checks, overview of Bill 113 (Police Record Check Reform Act), and the fingerprint process. While we will not be conducting record checks during these information sessions, you can learn how to complete your own record check, visit ottawapolice.ca/RecordChecks.
We’ll see you there!
