Tapley Brake Meter

This mechanical brake meter was used by traffic investigators for measuring braking efficiency.

Today an electronic piece of equipment called a Vericom 2000 does a similar job.

The Vericom not only measures braking efficiency but also provides total stopping distance, co-efficient of friction of the road surface, total braking time, acceleration rate and speed.
