We’re Asking Ottawa...

True or False: Files or photos sent over the Internet can easily be retrieved and removed from circulation.

True
False

The Right Answer: The right answer is false. Files or photos sent over the Internet cannot be retrieved and removed from circulation. For this reason, it is important to ensure you don’t send any information or images over the Internet that you may regret later.
  • Never tell anyone your full name, address, phone number, city or any other personal information about yourself or your family.
  • If someone sends you an email form with personal information about themselves on it and suggest you fill one out just like it, be alerted and don’t do it.
  • Be careful of inviting advertisements and requests for information. Never agree to meet anyone face-to-face that you have talked with online.
  • Never accept an e-mail attachment from a stranger. It may contain a program that will allow the sender to control or damage your computer.
  • Never send a file or photo over the Internet that you may regret later. Once sent, it is irretrievable and can circulate for many years.
