Let’s Chat Youth Café!
It was our turn to listen.
The Ottawa Police Service and the Ottawa Police Services Board held Let’s Chat Youth Café at Nepean Sportsplex on Wednesday, October 26, 2011. We had a great turn out with over 100 youth, police officers, and adult community members. It was a candid and frank dialogue between police officers and youth where everyone contributed to the small table chats. This event provided a safe space where youth felt comfortable talking about questions and issues that matter to them. The youth helped to provide officers with an Ottawa youth perspective and the officers gave youth a glimpse into the life of an officer with the Ottawa Police. We listened to all the great ideas brought forward and all the information and perspective we gained from this event is being taken into serious consideration as we continue to implementing Ottawa Police Service’s youth engagement strategy. We are working on the draft report and next steps but in the mean time check out the

A couple quotes from youth who attended:
“Tonight was unreal and a great opportunity. I think we are going in the right motion so that was really exciting.”
“This is so fun! I’m glad I came!”
“I met a lot of wicked cool officers today.”
Quote from Chief:
“When you have a group of diverse youth and police officers hanging out after an event is over and having a friendly and engaged conversation, you know you’ve done a great job. This is one of the best engagement sessions I’ve ever been involved with.
