Street Proofing Workshop for Women

The Ottawa Police Service invites you to participate in the next Street Proofing Workshop for Women. Developed in 1991, this workshop is designed to provide safety information to women to reduce the risk of victimization. The course develops knowledge of personal safety. Some of the topics covered throughout the course include safety in the car and home, date rape, self-defence and the law, as well as partner assault issues.

Self-Defence Tactics Demonstration: Techniques may include but are not limited to: various hand and leg strikes, escapes and releases, pressure points, awareness of pressure point areas. The use of force and application of techniques is also covered. Techniques are simple and easy to learn.

Group discussions cover topics such as the act of sexual assault and prevention.

Audience: This course is designed to accommodate women of all ages and offer them options in dealing with unwanted attention. This course is for women ages 13 and up.

Section B

  • Demonstrations of practical self defence tips and tactics along with attack examples

  5. Awareness of real attack situations

FEE: $35*

*Our fee covers administration costs. All proceeds are donated to the United Way and its affiliates.
This is entirely a volunteer program and all course fees collected by the Ottawa Police and its volunteers are given to charity as our way of giving back to the community. To date, the Streetproofing for Women program has donated over $22,000.00 to the United Way and its affiliates, earmarked for women and children in crisis.
