Update on preparations for a potential convoy in 2023

We continue to closely monitor the potential for vehicle-based protests happening in or travelling through Ottawa between now and mid-February.

Annual Hate Crimes data show a 13% increase in reporting to police

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Hate and Bias Crime Unit released its 2022 Annual statistics. The Hate and Bias Crime unit saw 377 total incidents, including 300 criminal and 77 hate incidents, which marks an increase of 13% over 2021.
In 2022, 51 individuals were charged with 174 counts of criminal offences. Five of these offences included formal Hate Crime Offences (Willful Promotion of Hatred and Public Incitement of Hatred).

Robbery Unit looking to identify suspect in Centretown bank robbery

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit is looking to identify a suspect involved in a bank robbery on January 5th in the 1100 block of Bank Street.
At approximately 1:30 pm, a lone suspect entered a bank and approached the bank teller. The suspect proceeded to bang the counter, told staff not to move, and demanded money.
The suspect fled the bank on foot heading east before obtaining any money.
