Increased police presence in ByWard Market and Downtown Rideau areas - beaches and parks this weekend

(Ottawa) — There will be an increased police presence in the ByWard Market and Downtown Rideau areas starting this evening - as well as at beaches and parks.
The increased police presence from Frontline Patrol and Neighbourhood Resource Teams (NRT), in conjunction with OC Transpo and City By-law partners, coincides with the Reopening Ontario Step 1 that includes a limit of 10 people for outdoor gatherings.

A stroll turned scary for a 12-year-old girl on May 15 when she became lost in the woods in Kanata.
She used a disconnected cell phone to call 911.
Police Communicator Celine Marchand answered her call around 9 pm, when it was just getting dark. “A lot of people don’t realize a phone without a sim card can dial 911,” she said.
The girl was frightened and upset, but Celine, who was hired by Ottawa Police in January 2021 told her, “I won’t hang up until you get home.” That helped calm her down.

(Ottawa) — The West Criminal Investigations Section is looking for the public’s assistance to identify an individual involved in an unprovoked assault on two women with a knife this afternoon.
