(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) continues to work to ensure a safe environment for hundreds of demonstrations held in Ottawa each year. 

Cooperation between the Ottawa Police Service, By-law and Regulatory Services and some demonstration organizers has been constructive, but challenges persist.

We have seen some recent disruptions that have impacted public safety, property, and local businesses.

Suspect to identify in two commercial robberies in Orleans

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit is seeking public assistance to identify a suspect responsible for two robberies in the 1900 block of Trim Road.

At approximately 5:00 am on January 7 and at approximately 3:30 am on January 10, the suspect entered the store armed with a firearm and made demands for cash and cigarettes. He then left the area on foot.

No one was physically injured in either robbery.

Fatal Collision on Highway 174 near Peter Harkness Lane

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday January 11, 2024     10:50 am

(Ottawa) —The Ottawa Police Service Fatal Collision Unit is investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Wednesday January 10th.

At approximately 5:30 pm, officers were called to reports of a two-vehicle collision on the 174 near Peter Harkness Lane.

One of the drivers, an 85-year-old man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The other driver was transported to the hospital with non-threatening injuries.

Fatal Collision on Bank Street: Police Seeking Witnesses

(Ottawa) —The Ottawa Police Service Fatal Collision Investigations Unit is seeking witnesses to a fatal collision that occurred yesterday, Tuesday, January 2.

At approximately 4:55 p.m., officers were called to the 1600 block of Bank Street in response to a collision involving a motor vehicle and an elderly pedestrian.

Suspect to identify following a commercial robbery on Rideau Street

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service is seeking public assistance to identify a suspect responsible for a robbery in the 200 block of Rideau Street on December 12th.

At approximately 4:15 pm, the suspect entered the store, selected items and did not pay. He assaulted an employee who attempted to stop him.
