(Ottawa) –The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting its annual Police Week, May 14 to 20, 2023, in communities city-wide.
Chief Eric Stubbs, Mayor Mark Sutcliffe and Dr. Gail Beck, the new Chair of the Ottawa Police Services Board, have created short videos to announce Police Week.

Charge laid: Carousel Crescent Homicide

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit has charged a man following an investigation of the stabbing homicide in the 2700 block of Carousel Crescent last evening. This is the sixth homicide in Ottawa in 2023.
The victim has been identified as 74-year-old William Bryant.
Today, Ahmed ISMAIL, 44 years old, of Ottawa was charged with Second-degree murder.
He is scheduled to appear in court today.

Shooting investigation: Pinson Private

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service Guns and Gangs Unit is investigating a shooting that occurred on May 8th.
At approximately 10:00 pm, officers responded to the 1-100 block of Pinson Private in response to shots fired.
Shell casings were recovered. No injuries were reported.
Investigators are looking to speak to any witnesses who may have information about the shooting, as well as security footage.

Man charged in Ottawa based grandparent scam

(Ottawa) – On May 5th, a woman in her 70s was contacted by phone and advised that her grandson was in trouble with the police, and that she needed to pay $10,000 for his bail.
She agreed to pay, and an unknown man went to her home to collect the money.
Days later, the woman was contacted once again, and asked for another $10,000. Alarmed, the woman contacted her son, and he called the Ottawa Police.
