I spent ten years in the Army before joining the Ottawa Police in 2019. That’s what helped me develop the discipline you need to do drill movements correctly. At the Ontario Police College (OPC) I was the drill leader for my class’ police training. For 13 weeks, I called out the drill commands and was responsible to the instructors for our dress and deportment. I decided to compete for the position of Sergeant Major, who leads the entire school of officers at our graduation. Even though not...

Fortunately for me, I was prepared for such moments. I was blessed to have had strong independent and resilient women in my life, such as my mom, who taught me to never let another person’s perception of me define who I am and what I could be. I also had three brothers that believed in me and encouraged me to be the best that I...

Cst. Amanda Munro followed in the footsteps of her father

When I was growing up, my dad was a police officer. He always said, ‘I love this job so much, helping people feel safe, some days I can’t believe I get paid for this’. He was the best example of integrity and dedication, it made me want to be an officer too. My father never suggested it wasn’t a career for women. He encouraged all four of his children to follow their dreams. I joined Ottawa Police in 2009, my brother Adam in 2011 and my sister Mallory in 2019. He was right, it’s an incredible...
