(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) has proposed an accelerated hiring plan that will see 100 new officers added to the Service in 2020, Chief Peter Sloly announced today.
The plan advances the forecast 2021-2022 police officer hiring as well as a portion of 2023 hiring. The accelerated hiring plan will enable the OPS to hire officers more rapidly and deploy them more effectively to priority policing areas like neighbourhood...

Woman who ran out of gas gets help from Neighbourhood Resource Team

While not in their job description, Neighbourhood Resource Team (NRT) officers were only too happy to help a stranded motorist one cold evening in December.

Last winter, Ottawa Police officers were called when a concerned citizen hadn’t seen an elderly neighbour outside his residence for some time, whose driveway was completely snow-covered for weeks. Officers checked on the man, who was snowed in and living off the supplies he had on hand. The officers shoveled and used a snow blower to clear his driveway and city partners removed the mounds of ice build-up at the end of his driveway.
