Charges laid after unlawful demonstration blocking access to Stornoway Residence
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, November 21, 2024 10:25 a.m.
(Ottawa)— Two people were arrested this morning after an unlawful demonstration outside the Stornoway Residence.
A group of approximately 12 people gathered on Acacia Avenue at approximately 7:17 a.m.
The group blocked access to the residence with a structure, and some proceeded to chain themselves to the structure, not allowing the family to pass.
After being informed that a criminal offence was occurring, four of the demonstrators removed themselves from the structure. Two people refused to comply with repeated orders to remove themselves from the structure and were arrested.
Two men were arrested, and charges are pending. The Central Criminal Investigations Section continues the investigation.
They will appear in court this afternoon.
