Charges laid in a hate-related mischief

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service Hate and Bias Crime Unit has charged an individual following mischief to property incidents that occurred on August 8th and August 17th.
At approximately 1:30 am on August 8th the individual caused several thousands of dollars in damage to a religious building in the 3800 block of Old Richmond Road. He then returned on August 17th at approximately 10:45 pm to cause additional damage to the building.
A 25-year-old Ottawa man has been identified and charged with:
- Mischief to property
- Loiter or Prowl at night on another person’s property
- Possession of break in instruments
He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Anyone who witnessed the mischiefs, has video surveillance, or has any information about the incidents is asked to call the Ottawa Police Service Hate Crime Unit at 613-236-1222, extension 5015. Tips may also be sent electronically to hatebiascrime@ottawapolice.ca.
We continue to encourage anyone who witnesses or experiences such incidents to report them to police. Reporting hate-motivated incidents is an important step in stopping cycles of hatred.
