Charges laid in Hate-Motivated incidents in Rideauview area

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service has charged a man in relation to hate-motivated incidents that occurred in the Rideauview area.
Police received reports of incidents that began in July 2023, and an investigation was commenced by the West Criminal Investigations Section with support from the Hate and Bias Crime Unit.
Yesterday, Zachary SMITH, 26-years-old, of Ottawa, was charged with:
- Mischief/damage to property
- Uttering threats of death or bodily harm
- Uttering threats of property damage
- Harassment by threatening conduct to other person
He is scheduled to appear in court today.
We continue to encourage anyone who witnesses or experiences such incidents to report them to police. Reporting hate-motivated incidents is an important step in stopping cycles of hatred.
