Charges laid in Hate-motivated incidents on July 1st
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, July 23, 2024 11:48 am
(Ottawa) – OC Transpo’s Special Constable Unit charged two men in relation to hate-motivated incidents that occurred on July 1, 2024.
At approximately 7:30 pm, two suspects made racial slurs and threats towards a family while on the transit system. The two suspects then assaulted an adult individual who sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The suspects were located that evening by OC Transpo Special Constables.
The Ottawa Police Hate and Bias Crime Unit assisted OC Transpo Special Constables with their investigation, per our Memorandum of Agreement.
OC Transpo’s Special Constable Unit has charged Pauloosie IPEELIE, 27 year old and David J. AMAGOALIK, 26 year old, both of Ottawa, with Assault. They are both scheduled to appear at court on August 7th.
We continue to encourage anyone who witnesses or experiences hate-motivated incidents to report them to police. Reporting hate-motivated incidents is an important step in stopping cycles of hatred.
