Charges laid in incident at City Hall

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service Hate and Bias Crime Unit has charged an individual following an assault at a demonstration at Ottawa City Hall on May 14th.
At approximately 5:30 pm, the victim was taking part in a lawful demonstration, when the individual approached the victim and removed her hijab from her head, while making lewd gestures.
A 74-year-old Ottawa woman has been identified and charged with assault, harassment by threatening conduct and mischief.
She will appear in court at a later date.
We continue to encourage anyone who witnesses or experiences such incidents to report them to police. Reporting hate-motivated incidents is an important step in stopping cycles of hatred.
