Charges laid in the murder of John Ndayishimiye

(Ottawa) – The Homicide Unit has charged one adult and one young person with first-degree murder in the December 6th, 2021, shooting death of John Ndayishimiye on Elmira Drive. The two are facing further charges of attempted murder in the shooting of a second victim in the same incident.
The accused adult is Noel PEREZ, 26, of Ottawa.
A third person, Hantel HERSI, age 23, is charged with accessory after the fact to murder and attempted murder.
PEREZ, HERSI and the young person appeared in court today and have been remanded into custody.
A warrant is being sought for the arrest of a fourth person.

Homicide Investigation on Elmira Drive continues -- police seeking public tips
(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit is investigating the shooting homicide of a 16-year-old teenager at a home in the 2200 block of Elmira Drive overnight.
Police attended the home after receiving a call for service at approximately 3:16am today; and located the deceased youth, who has been identified as John Ndayishimiye.
A second 16-year-old teen was also found at scene with non-life threatening injuries; and he was treated by Ottawa Paramedic Service and transported to a local hospital.
The area was canvassed by responding officers and the investigation continues. There is no suspect in custody at this time.
Investigators believe that the shooting was targeted and not a random act. There are no public safety concerns for the community.
