Community engagement contributes to 39% of crime gun reporting
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, November 12, 2020 11:20am
(Ottawa) – To date in 2020, the Ottawa Police Service investigated a total of 65 reports about guns that were in the community, and these reports resulted in the seizure of 92 crime guns.
“The Ottawa community played a significant role by generating close to 39% of the reports,” said Insp. Carl Cartright, with the Major Investigations Branch. “Making our community safer, by removing crime guns from our streets, is a task that police cannot do alone. We need residents to get involved; they are our eyes and ears.”
We remind Ottawa residents that if they suspect someone is carrying a crime gun, they can contact the Ottawa Police Service Guns and Gangs Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5050.
Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or at crimestoppers.ca.
