Community partners out to light up cyclists this Tuesday

(Ottawa) –Ottawa Police Service and Safer Roads Ottawa have partnered to raise awareness and encourage Ottawa cyclists to light themselves up while cycling in the early evening and night.
At the upcoming Lights on Bikes event, organizers and community partners will provide free bike lights and reflective bands as well as tips for improving cyclist visibility and general road safety.
Date: Tuesday, November 7
Time: 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Location: Corktown Footbridge, Ottawa (Rideau Canal Western Pathway)
Did you know that by law, cyclists in Ontario are required to have a white light mounted on the front of their bikes and a red light or reflector on the back at night?
The Safer Roads Ottawa Program is a community partnership between Ottawa Fire Services, Ottawa Paramedic Service, Ottawa Police Service, Ottawa Public Health and Ottawa Traffic Services. It is committed to preventing or eliminating road deaths and serious injuries for all Ottawa road users. This is achieved through culture change, community engagement, and development of a sustainable, safe transportation environment.
