Cst. Satara Stephens was the second female Sergeant Major in the history of the Ontario Police College
I spent ten years in the Army before joining the Ottawa Police in 2019. That’s what helped me develop the discipline you need to do drill movements correctly. At the Ontario Police College (OPC) I was the drill leader for my class’ police training. For 13 weeks, I called out the drill commands and was responsible to the instructors for our dress and deportment. I decided to compete for the position of Sergeant Major, who leads the entire school of officers at our graduation. Even though not many women apply for the position, I knew I could do it if I set my mind to it. At our graduation, I was the second female Sergeant Major in the history of OPC. It was an honour to lead my class, and I won’t lie - I felt pretty bad-ass.
