Drug seized and young man charged following an overdose call on Ramsey Crescent
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, June 10, 2020 4:13pm
(Ottawa)—Last evening, the Ottawa Police received a call about a man who possibly had an overdose in the 1000 block of Ramsay Crescent.
Frontline officers attended and canvassed the area to locate the victim, and came upon a suspicious vehicle in the area.
Their investigation revealed that one of the occupants was in possession of large quantity of white pills presumed to be Alprazolam (Xanax). The drugs seized are to be submitted to Health Canada for analysis.
Today, the Drug Unit charged a 14-year-old male with Possession for the purpose of trafficking. He was released on an undertaking, into the custody of his parents.
Five young people, including the charged youth, received medical attention for overdose symptoms that police believe resulted from the consumption of the illicit pills.
Over the last 48 hours, the Ottawa Police has received numerous medical assistance calls in relation to young persons exhibiting symptoms of overdose in the area of Ramsay Crescent.
The Drug Unit reminds the public that the use of illegally-obtained substances presents inherent risks, as counterfeit drugs do not taste, smell or look different than prescription drugs obtained at a pharmacy or from your physician.
