First degree murder charge laid in Gilmour Street Homicide

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Homicide Unit arrested a 15-year-old male yesterday in relation to the shooting death of Manyok Akol on January 8th.
The 15-year-old was held for a Show Cause Hearing this morning and formally charged with 1 count of First Degree Murder and 3 counts of Attempted Murder this morning. Per the YCJA, he will not be identified as he is a minor.
This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 5493.

The handgun pictured is believed to be the murder weapon. Homicide Unit investigators have confidence that someone may have valuable information on this unique firearm that can assist in this investigation.

Gilmour Street homicide – one suspect to identify, with video
(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit is seeking the public’s assistance to identify a suspect in relation to the January 8th, 2020 shooting on Gilmour Street and releasing a new video.
Investigators wish to speak to anyone who may have seen the suspect, who is wearing a blue jacket and red-coloured pants, walking east on Gilmour Street around 7:20 am, just prior to the shooting incident.
A light-coloured vehicle can also be observed travelling east on Gilmour Street as the suspect is walking (at the end of the video). Investigators would like to speak with the driver of this vehicle.
The Homicide Unit is looking for witnesses who may have seen any vehicles pulled over in the area of Lyon Street, between Somerset Street and Gilmour Street, between 7:00 – 8:00 am on January 8th.

Gilmour Street homicide – two persons of interest to identify, with video
(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Major Crime Unit is looking for public assistance to identify two persons of interest in the ongoing homicide investigation on Gilmour Street and releasing video.
The individuals, who are seen running in the video, are described as:
- First is wearing red/orange pants and light blue jacket/hooded sweatshirt;
- Second is wearing red/orange pants, dark jacket and dark shoes.
Major Crime investigators are also looking for any available surveillance video that nearby residents may have at hand or dash cam footage obtained in the area between 7:00am to 7:45am on January 8th.
One of the injured males has been released from hospital and the other two males remain in hospital recovering. Their injuries are not life threatening.

Gilmour Street homicide investigation, victim identified
(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Major Crime Unit has identified the victim as Manyok Akol, 18 years old of Ottawa following the morning shooting at a short-term rental (with Airbnb) on Gilmour Street.
The three people injured – a 15 year old male, a 19 year old male and a 20 year old male - remain in hospital in serious condition.
Gilmour Street remains closed between Kent and Lyon while the investigation continues.
We are reminding the public and members of the media to respect the safety perimeter in place at the shooting scene. This perimeter is established to protect the scene and the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

Gilmour Street homicide investigation, police seeking public tips
(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Major Crime Unit is seeking public assistance to identify and locate the suspect involved in a targeted shooting this morning on Gilmour Street. There is no suspect description available at this time.
Major Crime investigators have confirmed that there are no national security implications related to this incident. Further, this is not an active shooter situation.
Three people remain in hospital and are being treated for serious injuries and a forth person is deceased. The victim will not be identified at this time, as the process of next of kin notification is ongoing.
Gilmour Street remains closed between Kent and Lyon while the investigation is ongoing.

Ongoing Police Operation on Gilmour Street
(Ottawa) – Ottawa Police is continuing its investigation of a multiple shooting that occurred on the 400 block of Gilmour Street this morning at about 7:30 a.m.
Police were called to the scene after reports of multiple gun shots. Once on scene officers found several people injured. At this time, three people have been transported to hospital with serious injuries and one person has been confirmed deceased.
Police continue to seek a suspect in this shooting. The scene at Gilmour Street has been secured by police. This is not considered an active shooter situation, but the suspect remains at large and is not in custody.
Gilmour Street remains closed between Kent and Lyon while the investigation is ongoing.
