Hate-motivated incident at National Holocaust Monument, suspect photos available

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Hate Crime Section is releasing photos of the suspect involved in a hate-motivated incident at the National Holocaust Monument on Booth Street. 

The incident was reported to police on January 29^th at approx. 4:00pm. In a tweet that evening, Ottawa Police announced that ‘police are investigating an incident involving the defacing of the National Holocaust Monument on Booth Street and treating this matter seriously. It will be investigated as a hate-motivated incident by our Hate Crimes Section.’ 

“Incidents such as this are deeply disturbing to many communities especially when they target specific groups,” said Chief Peter Sloly. “It is completely unacceptable and it will not be tolerated.” 

The suspect has been described as a Caucasian male, 20-25 years old, 5’10” to 6’1” (178cm to 185cm). He was wearing a red jacket with a grey hoodie, dark coloured pants and was carrying a black backpack (see photos).
