Uplands Drive Homicide: Man charged in Ottawa Femicide
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, October 25, 2024 11:00 am
(Ottawa)— The Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit has charged 36-year-old Fsha TEKHLE of Montreal with First Degree Murder in connection with the homicide on Uplands Drive.
TEKHLE had a domestic relationship with a family member of the victim, Brkti Berhe. This tragic event is a femicide.
TEKHLE is scheduled to appear in court this morning.
A femicide is generally defined as “the killing of women and girls because of their gender” often driven by stereotyped gender roles, discrimination towards women and girls or unequal power relations between women and men. The Ottawa Police Service also builds on the definition recommended by our VAW community partners as “the misogynist killing of women and girls because of their gender, overwhelmingly committed by men.”
