Increased officer presence in ByWard Market and Downtown Rideau
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, July 11, 2024 3:25 p.m.
(Ottawa) — An increased police presence focused on crime and social disorder will continue in the ByWard Market and Downtown Rideau.
The increased officer presence from Frontline and Neighbourhood Police Officers is organized in conjunction with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, OC Transpo and the City of Ottawa By-law Regulatory Services partners.
Officers will continue to take a zero-tolerance approach to disorderly behaviour, such as Liquor Licence and Control Act offences, criminal activity and aggressive panhandling that can negatively impact residents, visitors and businesses.
These Community Safety Initiatives are being conducted every weekend in the summer months to better ensure residents and visitors can enjoy these areas in a safe manner.
You can report incidents online at ottawapolice.ca/report, by calling the non-emergency number 613-236-1222, extension 7300, or by calling 911 in the case of an emergency or a crime in progress.
