Investigation Continues into Daytime Shooting on Bank Street
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, November 7, 2023 2:15 pm
(Ottawa) - The Ottawa Police Guns and Gangs Unit continues to investigate a brazen daytime shooting that occurred yesterday in Centretown.
At approximately 1:30 pm, Neighbourhood Resource Team (NRT) officers were patrolling in the area of Bank Street and Gilmour Street when they heard gunshots and observed multiple males fleeing the area.
Officers began a foot chase and were able to arrest the responsible individuals and locate the victim, who had also fled the scene.
The 22-year-old victim was treated at the scene and later transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound, he remains in hospital in critical condition. He will be facing several firearms related charges and will appear in court at a later date.
A second male, 18-years-old, is charged with multiple firearms offences, aggravated assault and several Controlled Drug and Substances Act charges. He will appear in court today.
A third male, 19-years-old, is facing charges under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act. He will appear in court today.
As the investigation continues further criminal charges may be laid.
Two handguns were also recovered during the incident. These are the 71st and 72nd crimes guns seized this year.
This is the 67th shooting in Ottawa this year.
This was a disturbing and brazen incident, and we are grateful for the safety and participation of witnesses. This involved many brave, skilled and professional individuals and units of the Ottawa Police Service. This response included NRT, frontline officers, the 911 Police Communicators and dispatchers, along with the investigative teams, evidence and forensic collection teams and our community partner the Ottawa Paramedic Service.
