Investigation underway following attempted theft on Merivale Road, Police seeking witnesses

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service is seeking witnesses who may have seen suspicious activity in relation to an attempted theft from an ATM machine.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours, at approximately 4:00 am today, at a building in the 1900 block of Merivale Road.

Investigators believe that one or more persons entered the building and attempted to use a device to open the cash area on an ATM. The device caused damage to the ATM but thankfully no injuries occurred.

The CBRNE and HAZMAT teams attended the scene and determined that there were no known risk to public safety.

The investigation continues and police are asking anyone with information to contact the Ottawa Police Arson Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 4587 or send an email at arson@ottawapolice.ca.
