It’s a Home Run! Cheer on the Ottawa Police and the Miracle League Baseball Team, this Saturday
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, September 12, 2023 11:45 am
(Ottawa) – On Saturday, September 16th, Ottawa Police members will pair up with veteran members of the Miracle League of Ottawa as their two teams duke it out to see who takes home the Miracle League/Ottawa Police Service Game of Champions trophy from the Miracle League ballpark in Navan.
Up to 50 members of the Miracle League, ranging in age from 5 to 40 years old, will be ready to knock a few out of the park for a community-building awareness day, playing with our very own Ottawa Police crew.
“Part of what we do in policing is create strong community ties and break down barriers for everyone,” said event Ottawa Police organizer Detective Angela Robinson. “This field is a fantastic and accessible place for all kids of all abilities to connect and just be kids.”
The Miracle League ballpark was inspired by Bryce Desrochers, who just wanted to get out and play ball like other kids. His mother, Michelle, and father, Rolly, worked to make this dream come true for their son. The field includes wheelchair-accessible dugouts and diamond, and a cushioned rubberized surface to prevent injuries. The park now also includes a fully accessible playground and a sheltered picnic area.
The event will start at 10 a.m. and include a one-hour game and Ottawa Police info tents and trophies for the kids. Pizza and refreshments to follow.
