Join us at the 7th annual “Human Rights Learning Forum” on December 8th

(Ottawa) — In recognition of Human Rights Day, The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) invites members of the public to attend the seventh annual Human Rights Learning Forum (HRLF) on Thursday, December 8, 2022. This year’s forum has been organized in partnership with the United for All coalition and the Community Equity Council (CEC).
Location: Hellenic Meeting and Reception Centre, 1315 Prince of Wales Drive, in Ottawa.
Time: 8:30am to 3:00pm.

The theme of this year’s forum is “A Healing Journey: Understanding the Trauma of Hate and Bias.”
Incidents of hate and bias leave a lasting impact on the communities where they occur. The forum is an important opportunity to meet with residents and experts to develop solutions together.
At this forum, participants will hear from leading experts and community leaders who will share their views and raise awareness about the impacts of hate and bias on our community.
Keynote Speaker
- Dr. Barbara Perry: Director of the Centre on Hate, Bias and Extremism.
Panelists
- Amira Elghawaby: Journalist, human rights advocate and Director of Strategic Communications and Campaigns at the Canadian Race Relations Foundation.
- Bernie M. Farber: A human rights consultant and social justice advocate.
- Sahada Alolo: Community Equity Council (CEC) Community Co-Chair and holder of a Doctorate in Educational Leadership.
The forum will officially begin with a traditional opening from Elder Irene Compton and welcoming comments by Ottawa Police Chief Eric Stubbs. A working session will follow in the afternoon.
