NRT enforcement in ByWard and Lowertown areas targets social disorder and drug activity

(Ottawa) – Between October 16 and October 27th, the Ottawa Police Service Market, Centretown and Carlington Neighbourhood Resource Teams (NRTs) conducted an enforcement project in the ByWard and Lowertown areas targeting social disorder related issues as well as drug related activity.
Consequently, 21 individuals, ranging between 17 and 50 years old and residents of Ottawa, were arrested and a total of 62 criminal charges were laid, including:
- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of controlled substances
- Obstructing Police
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Breaches of release orders
- Possession of Property obtained by Crime
With these arrests, a considerable quantity of controlled substances, including Fentanyl and Cocaine, were also seized.
Additionally, 53 Provincial Offence Notices (PONs) were issued ranging from Liquor Licence and Control Act and Highway Traffic Act violations as well as By-law infractions.
“NRT enforcement projects will continue to occur across the City, with our City partners, as police identify emerging problem areas,” said Staff Sergeant Cory Robertson with the Ottawa Police Neighbourhood Resource Teams.
