Ottawa Police Service celebrates Police Week – May 15 to 21

(Ottawa) –The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting its annual Police Week, May 15 to 21, 2022, in communities city-wide.

This marks the first time in two years that we are able to celebrate in person, and there is a lineup of family friendly events aimed at reconnecting with the community.

The OPS needs to hire 80 new recruits in 2022, and our Outreach and Recruitment Team will be on site at each event to answer any questions you may have about the application process.

Interim Chief Steve Bell, Mayor Jim Watson and Ottawa Police Services Board Chair Eli El-Chantiry have created short videos to announce Police Week which you can view on our website at ottawapolice.ca/PoliceWeek2022.

The goal of Police Week is to help residents better understand what we do as a police service by sitting down with you to answer your questions, share something to eat, and come together as a community.

That’s because our members are part of the community too, and they are dedicated to building trust in their duty of care to enhance the safety of everyone who calls Ottawa home.  

This year’s theme: “Your Police Services: Helping Build Safer Communities,” can be achieved by co-developing programs, ideas, and solutions to issues that are unique to the Nation’s Capital. It’s something we need to do together; and it’s a great place to start during Police Week.

We are looking forward to seeing you out at any of our events from May 15 to 21: 

• May 17 | Pinecrest Recreation Centre (2250 Torquay Avenue) | 4 to 7 p.m.
  Come and meet your Community Police Officer and play basketball with the OPS Hoopstars.
• May 18 | Elizabeth Manley Park (1261 Blohm Dr, Ottawa) | 4 to 7 p.m.
  Come and meet your Community Police Officer and play basketball with the OPS Hoopstars.
• May 19 | Jules Morin Park (400 Clarence St East, Ottawa) | 4 to 7 p.m. 
  Come and meet your Community Police Officer and play a game of soccer with OPS members.

Each community event will have a 21 foot 5 in 1 World of Sports games to test your athletic skills, a visit from Little Ray’s Reptiles where you can hold a spider or a snake, OPS vehicles to explore, face painting, BBQ, drinks, and popcorn. You can even participate in a game of basketball and face off against some of the OPS’ Hoopstars.
