FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, May 17, 2023 10:43 a.m.
(Ottawa)—The Ottawa Police Service is honoured to support the Ontario Provincial Police with the procession and regimental funeral of Provincial Sergeant Eric Mueller on Thursday, May 18.
The procession will begin in Rockland at approximately 9 a.m. and arrive in Kanata just before 10 a.m., where a funeral will take place at the Canadian Tire Centre beginning at 11 a.m.
Commuters may experience temporary slowdowns on Highways 174 and 417 as the procession travels through the city.
Expect traffic congestion in and around Kanata Thursday morning as thousands of people gather to bid farewell to a fallen hero.
Commuters are asked to avoid the area or use alternate routes on Thursday morning.
- Huntmar Road will be closed at 6 a.m. between Campeau and Palladium Drives, with the closure extending to Maple Grove Road at 8:45 a.m. As a result, Front Desk Services and the Collision Reporting Centre at Huntmar are closed on Thursday, May 18, until 1:30 p.m.
- Palladium Drive will be closed between Huntmar Drive and Silver Seven Road beginning at 8:45 a.m.
The funeral service is not open to the public, and as such, access to the Canadian Tire Centre and its parking lots will be restricted to registered attendees with proper identification or a parking pass.
All roads are expected to reopen at approximately 1 p.m. Although Huntmar and Palladium Drives should be open by 11 a.m. at the latest once everyone is inside, Cyclone Taylor and Frank Finnegan will remain closed until approximately 2 p.m. to ensure a safe egress.
Anyone wishing to pay tribute at an overpass over Highways 174 or 417 is asked to do so with public and road safety in mind.
