Residents Matter Enforcement Initiative Results: July 26

(Ottawa) – On the evening of Friday July 26th, members of the Traffic Escort & Enforcement and Frontline patrol officers along with OPP were in the Barrhaven and Kanata areas as part of the Residents Matter (#ResidentsMatter) late-night traffic enforcement initiative.
Two drivers were charged with stunt driving:
• 133 km/h in a 70 km/h zone – Strandherd Drive / Dealership Drive
• 120 km/h in a 70 km/h zone – Strandherd Drive / Aura Avenue
Three drivers were issued Court Summons for having “no insurance” during additional traffic stops, which includes a minimum fine of $5000.
A driver was doing 146km/h in a 100km/h zone on Highway 417/ Terry Fox Drive, blew a “Fail” on the roadside Alcotest and was charged with “Impaired Over .80” under Criminal Code. The driver was also issued a PON for having a radar detector in the vehicle.
A total of 36 provincial offence notices (PONs) were issued including 4 for speeding, 5 for improper or no muffler, 4 for improper window tints, 4 for failing to display two plates. 12 court summonses were issued along with one Criminal Code charge.
“Ottawa Police Service and our policing partners will continue to focus on the dangerous and irresponsible driving that is occurring on our roads,” cautions Cst Phil Kane of the Ottawa Police Traffic Escort & Enforcement Unit.
