Missing Swimmer Recovered at Britannia Beach

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service Marine Unit has recovered the body of the swimmer who went missing on Wednesday, July 12, at Britannia Beach.

(Ottawa) - A search of the Ottawa River at Britannia Beach will continue today as police work to locate a swimmer who went missing last night.

Just after 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, Ottawa Fire, and the Ottawa Police Service were called to Britannia Beach for the missing man.

The 21-year-old was swimming when he disappeared under the water.

After a sonar and water search by the Ottawa Fire, the water rescue was turned over to the OPS Marine and Dive Unit who searched the water until approximately 3 a.m.

The search operation will resume today. Please follow the direction of officers on the water.

The investigation is ongoing.
