Tow truck non-compliance results in 19 charges against five drivers

(Ottawa)–The Ottawa Police Service conducted tow truck compliance checks over the weekend aimed at ensuring adherence to the Towing and Storage Safety Enforcement Act (TSSEA) and the Highway Traffic Act (HTA). Police examined compliance for tow truck operators, drivers, and vehicle storage facilities. This resulted in 19 charges against multiple companies and drivers.
The focus of this operation was to uphold public safety and consumer protection by ensuring tow truck operators and drivers complied with legal requirements. Key issues included proper display of information, consent for services, and compliance with inspection protocols.

- Failure to ensure company name displayed on tow trucks as required.
- Failure to post required information outside yard facilities.

The Ottawa Police Service will continue to monitor and enforce compliance within the towing industry. Businesses and drivers are reminded to familiarize themselves with their legal obligations under the TSSEA and HTA.
