Traffic Services Unit conducted enforcement blitz - 68 tickets issued
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, February 17th, 2023 10:40am
(Ottawa)—On Tuesday, February 14th, the Ottawa Police Traffic Services Unit were out in full-force conducting proactive traffic enforcement throughout the city.
“Our officers were engaged with two separate initiatives; one being the use of Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs), the other focusing on commercial motor vehicle inspections,” said Staff Sergeant Denis Hull, with the Ottawa Police Traffic and Escort Unit.
“Our continued focus is to remove high-risk and problematic drivers from city streets; it all goes toward enhancing the safety and well-being of all road users, whether they’re driving, cycling or walking,” added Sgt. Hull.
Officers deployed to both Bank Street and Preston Street utilizing ALPR technology issued 68 tickets, including 4 for Stunt Driving, 3 for speeding, 24 for expired license plates, 6 for unlicensed drivers, 4 for distracted driving and various Provincial offences.
Further East, OPS Traffic officers partnered with Ministry of Transportation officers focusing on commercial vehicle inspections – resulting in 3 vehicles being deemed “unsafe” and removed from the road.
“One truck had only three of six nuts attached to its wheels,” said S/Sgt. Hull. “We will continue to do these types of inspections to ensure that all commercial vehicles are in compliance.”
Road safety continues to be a number one priority to both residents and the Ottawa Police, and the Service will continue to focus on these types of proactive measures to ensure the safety of all road users.
