Two frontline officers save a man’s life with early CPR and Naloxone
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, April 1, 2020 4:00pm
(Ottawa) – Last evening, Frontline officers responded to a call for service about an unconscious man in a home in the 200 block of Donald Street.
When two constables arrived on scene, they were directed to a man who was on the floor, with a faint pulse, gasping for air and turning blue. Officers were informed by bystanders that the man had consumed narcotics.
Officers immediately administered Naloxone and engaged in CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) while connecting him to an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
The man regained consciousness and was transported by Ottawa Paramedics to a local hospital for further care.
Police regularly respond to such urgent medical calls. They carry and are trained to administer Naloxone and operate the AED. Naloxone is a medication used to block the effects of opioids.
If you see someone in medical distress, please call 911. This call can possibly stop an overdose and save a life.
