Update: Drowning at the Prince of Wales Bridge, body recovered

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service is advising that a body was recovered near Lemieux Island, yesterday afternoon.
This afternoon, the coroner’s office has confirmed that it is the body of the 14 year old male who drowned on July 3rd.
The police investigation continues.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the youth.

Marine Incident/Possible Drowning at the Prince of Wales Bridge
(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service frontline officers along with the Marine, Dive and Trails Unit responded to a marine incident/possible drowning at the Prince of Wales Bridge at approximately 9:19pm yesterday evening.
A group of youths gathered on the bridge and some were jumping off into the Ottawa River. A 14 year old male member of this group jumped off the bridge and did not resurface. Frontline officers, members of the Marine, Dive and Trails Unit, the Emergency Services Unit UAV as well as our Ottawa Fire Service, Gatineau Police and Gatineau Fire Service partners searched the water and shoreline by boat, by foot and by air but did not locate the male.
The Central Criminal Investigations Unit will be conducting an investigation to determine what occurred. The family of the boy has been advised of this incident and the Ottawa Police Service Victims Crisis Unit counsellors are assisting them and the male’s friends.
Officers will resume the water search this morning.
