Update on Broadview Avenue Demonstrations

(Ottawa)— This morning, the Ottawa Police Service deployed to the area of Broadview Avenue in preparation for planned demonstrations.
Two groups of demonstrators with opposing views gathered in the area requiring a significant police presence. Police remained on site throughout the day to ensure public and community safety.
Officers were also in contact with local schools to ensure the safety of students and workers, providing updates as needed.
Road closures were in place in the area.
Some demonstrators became disruptive and aggressive with officers. As of 4 pm, five individuals had been arrested. Investigations remain ongoing.
Officers increased their presence in the afternoon until the demonstrations came to an end.
It is the role of the police to keep the peace, uphold community safety, enforce laws and allow for lawful demonstrations.
As with any event, officers have gathered evidence and will follow up on any criminal incidents, including Hate Crimes.
