Willful Promotion of Hatred charge laid against an Ottawa man

(Ottawa) – The Hate and Bias Crime Unit has charged a man with the Wilful Promotion of Hatred.
Investigators submitted a request to the Attorney General of Ontario requesting his approval for a formal charge of wilful promotion of hatred to be laid in relation to the incidents.
On June 13, the request to the Attorney General of Ontario was approved and Paul KOPPE was subsequently charged. He will appear in court later this year.
We recognize the impact of hate-motivated incidents on the community, and we urge everyone to report incidents when they happen. Information about Hate-Motivated incidents can be found online.

Anti-Semitic poster investigation results in multiple Hate Motivated Mischief Charges
(Ottawa) – The Hate and Bias Crime Unit, with assistance from West Criminal Investigations and Forensic Identification Units, has charged a man in relation to anti-Semitic posters distributed in multiple locations in the west end this Fall.
The man was arrested today following an approximately two-month long investigation.
A total of 26 counts of Hate motivated Mischief have been laid against Paul KOPPE, 29 years old of Ottawa. He is scheduled to appear in court in February 2022.

Suspect to identify in relation to Hate Crime Investigation into Anti-Semitic posters
(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Hate and Bias Crime Unit is seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect pertaining to this Hate motivated mischief investigation.
The suspect is described as a Caucasian man, approximately 5’9” (175cm), medium build, wearing a grey tuque with a white badge, a blue bandana covering his face, a black and red Brooks hoodie, grey pants and dark shoes. He was also carrying a black Nike knapsack on his back (see photo).

Hate Crime Investigation into Anti-Semitic posters
(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Hate and Bias Crime Unit is investigating a series of posters with hateful content that have been appearing in public spaces in the west end.
The latest incident occurred on Sunday in the Centrepointe Dr. area, when posters with anti-Semitic and hateful content were discovered near a skate park.
Police are investigating 8 similar incidents throughout the west end of the city and Barrhaven.
The Ottawa Police takes hate crimes seriously and is fully investigating these matters.
