Youth arrested and charged following Fentanyl covert operation

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service Street Crime Unit and the ByWard Market/Lowertown Neighbourhood Resource Team (NRT) arrested and charged a youth for trafficking Fentanyl (see picture).
In October 2021, the Street Crime Unit began an investigation after receiving information about suspected trafficking of controlled substances in the Market area.
On October 15th, 2021, Street Crime investigators, with assistance of the ByWard Market/Lowertown NRT, arrested a 15 year old youth and charged him with drug and proceeds of crime offences including:
- Trafficking in Schedule I substance - Section 5 of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
- Possession of Schedule I substance – Section 5 of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
- Possession of property obtained by crime not exceeding $5000 – Section 354 of the Criminal Code
The youth was released to his legal guardian by way of Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) undertakings with a court appearance scheduled at a later date.
