Additional criminal charges laid from September traffic enforcement initiative

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Traffic Escort & Enforcement Unit has provided updates on additional charges laid against a 27-year-old Ottawa man in connection with the September 19th Residents Matter (#ResidentsMatter) late-night traffic enforcement initiative.
After consultation with an Ottawa Police Traffic Escort & Enforcement Unit officer, the Crown laid the following additional charges under the Highway Traffic Act against the 27-year-old:
- Careless Driving
- Fail to Stop for Police
Following further investigation, which included Ottawa Police dash-cam video, surveillance footage from a business, and witness statements, the driver pleaded guilty to the following charges:
- Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed – $6,000 fine
- Careless Driving – $2,000 fine
- Fail to Stop for Police – $2,000 fine
In addition, the driver’s license has been suspended for two years.
“Ottawa Police, along with our national capital policing partners, the OPP and RCMP, will continue to target and investigate these irresponsible and dangerous drivers who use our roads in a dangerous manner, ultimately putting innocent lives in danger,” said Cst. Phil Kane of the Ottawa Police Traffic Escort & Enforcement Unit.
