Arson

The Ottawa Police Arson Unit investigates about 200-250 fires each year. They work to find the origin and cause of both structure and vehicle fires. 

They also review around 250 more fires classified either as "Undetermined” or “Non-Arson” (accidental). 

The Arson Unit works closely with the Ottawa Fire Service.

Once the fire investigator determines that a fire is suspicious, the investigation becomes the responsibility of the Arson Unit. Depending on the scope of the investigation, the Arson Unit will work in conjunction with investigators from the Ottawa Fire Service and the Ontario Office of the Fire Marshal. 

The Ottawa Police Service is at the forefront of this criminal investigation field.
